December 2013

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host
appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
- Luke 2:13-14

This earth could use a little peace, could it not? There are fearful and discouraging things all around us. We see people being taken advantage of and abused, nations rising up against each other, families crumbling. This has been the pattern for humanity as far back as Adam blaming Eve for his sin and one of their sons murdering the other.

So when the angels descended on the shepherds with news of Jesus’ birth it’s no surprise that they brought a message of hope, life and peace for humanity. They declared that peace among men or on earth could start to flourish once more because Jesus would be the one to begin the restoration. Those of us that are believers in Christ can rest assured that in Jesus we can find peace. And as followers of Jesus we are to pattern our lives after Jesus and seek to be peacemakers on this earth. As Jesus revealed, “blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.” God is calling us to join in His work of bringing peace to this world.

As Christmas approaches with all the busyness and stress, let us look to the Prince of Peace to be our guide. Let us look to heal wounds and hurts, especially in our church families and our own. Let us look to be united under the leading of the Holy Spirit as the Apostle Paul urged, “that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”

We are excited about some upcoming youth led events that will hopefully bring more unity to the entire Church body. On December 7th the Youth will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner and Movie Night beginning with dinner at 5:30pm. We will follow this with a tree lighting service that will include some carols. The night will wrap up with a showing of the Christmas classic, The Muppet Christmas Carol. Tickets can be purchased in advance until Dec. 1st and are $8 for those ages 12 and up, while children under 12 are $5. The Youth will also be helping with other ministries this holiday season such as, Operation Christmas Child, Christmas caroling and helping with the Holiday Shoppe.

We hope that as we head into the New Year we will be able to continue to give our Youth an opportunity to experience God and grow more and more in His image. Please pray for our youth and their great group of leaders.
