Counseling Corner - January 2009

2008 has come to an end. Here we are in a new year. Some people make resolutions and promises to themselves to lose weight, read the Word more, go to school, finish projects begun etc, etc, etc...... Some we forget, some we attempt and some we complete.

The truth is we don't know what 2009 will bring, but we know Who does. He is ever present. He is the great I AM. He is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6b. He is everything.

As we think about the coming year with expectation, excitement, fear, doubt, anger; let us remember that Jesus came to earth that we may have our sins forgiven, have eternal life, and have the promises of God manifested in our lives. Those promises are too numerous to list. Books have been written, lists have been made, verses quoted, Bible studies formed to bring us to the knowledge of His faithfulness, His love, His provision, His care among so many other things we need for life and godliness. He has given us the Holy Spirit to be our Comforter, our Guide, and our Helper. John 14 refers to Him as the Spirit of truth. He leads us to Jesus: The greatest Gift of all.

This Christmas I was not able to give a lot of material things. I sought the Lord about this and He told me to write down some of the prayers with a gold pen and a nice stationary and give them as gifts. So my brothers and sisters, this is what I pray for you in the coming year:

Ephesians 3:14 -20

"For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom His whole family in heaven and on earth derives His name. I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and how high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we can think or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen" NIV

The best gift that I received this Christmas was a call from my daughter telling me that she has seriously rededicated her life.
