Communion Offering for July 2010
Communion offering this month is for Andy and Lizet Bowen, missionaries in Paraguay who spoke at church last week.
Lizet grew up in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, with Christian parents. She accepted Christ when she was six years old in her mother's Sunday School class. Her parents became pastors and later felt God's call to missions. They went as missionaries to Paraguay when Lizet was 15. In Paraguay, Lizet studied at Wesley Biblical Institute. After one of her classes, she committed her life completely to Jesus Christ. She earned a certificate to teach information technology while also ministering to children in the church where her father was a pastor. Andy and Lizet met in 1999 while Andy was ministering at her father's church.
Andy grew up in a Christian home. His parents were missionaries in Kenya, Africa, where he was born and lived until going to college. He was saved at Delanco Camp Meeting in New Jersey when he was seven. After high school, he attended Asbury College in Kentucky, majoring in French and Spanish. Following a missions trip to Paraguay his senior year at Asbury, Andy felt called to return to Paraguay as a missionary. He was appointed with World Gospel Mission in 1992. After two years in Paraguay, he returned to Kenya to earn a graduate degree in translation at the Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology. In 1999, he began a Guarani language study program for English-speaking missionaries who wished to learn the heart language of the people of Paraguay. Andy and Lizet are committed to ongoing discipleship of young Paraguayan Christian leaders.
Pray:
- That God will give us His heart for the Paraguayans whom He has sent us to.
- For Paraguayan church leaders to be hungry for the Word of God and that they will grow in their ministry.
- That our family will have protection from physical, spiritual, and emotional dangers.
- For the missionary community that we minister to through language and cultural learning
