Mission Minutes
October 2013

Bill & I feel honored to be asked to be the chair of the Missions committee. This is a very busy time of the year for all of us, including Missions. You may have already or will soon receive a donation letter for Christmas Store. You may ask yourself what is "Christmas Store"? Christmas Store is a project that St. Paul's UMC has done in collaboration with St. Thomas Lutheran Church for over 30 years. We supply 75-80 families in our local area with the basic needs for Christmas. Each family receives Christmas dinner, a warm tree item, which are hand-made lovingly during the year, for each person in the family, a hospitality bag, which has toiletry items and a religious gift, a choice from our "bookstore", and each child under the age of 18 in the family receives a toy which parents shop for in our own little Christmas toy store. Wrapping paper is supplied to make all these items look festive for Christmas morning. This is a wonderful way to start your Christmas Season. If you have any question or would like to help please call Bery Smithouser 732-899-9366 or Sue Miller 732-840-3055.

Fisher House

Fisher House Foundation, Inc. was founded by Elizabeth and Zachery Fisher in 1990 with a personal donation of more than $20 million to begin the construction of "comfort homes" for families of hospitalized military personnel. "A Fisher House is 'a home away from home' for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time-during the hospitalization for unexpected illnesses, diseases or injuries. The Fisher House program ensures families that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive and caring environment. There is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House."
