missionaries_bowensCommunion Offering for July 2010

Communion offering this month is for Andy and Lizet Bowen, missionaries in Paraguay who spoke at church last week.

Lizet grew up in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, with Christian parents. She accepted Christ when she was six years old in her mother's Sunday School class. Her parents became pastors and later felt God's call to missions. They went as missionaries to Paraguay when Lizet was 15. In Paraguay, Lizet studied at Wesley Biblical Institute. After one of her classes, she committed her life completely to Jesus Christ. She earned a certificate to teach information technology while also ministering to children in the church where her father was a pastor. Andy and Lizet met in 1999 while Andy was ministering at her father's church.

Sunset in Africa

There is a beautiful sunset over Nairobi tonight. In about 30 minutes it will set over Akot. And in about 7 hours it will ride over the western horizon for many of you. We're approximately 7,433 miles apart for those of you in the northeast U.S. At times it seems as if we're a world apart and then other times I ask myself, what's so different?

Fisher House

Fisher House Foundation, Inc. was founded by Elizabeth and Zachery Fisher in 1990 with a personal donation of more than $20 million to begin the construction of "comfort homes" for families of hospitalized military personnel. "A Fisher House is 'a home away from home' for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time-during the hospitalization for unexpected illnesses, diseases or injuries. The Fisher House program ensures families that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive and caring environment. There is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House."

SEPTEMBER COMMUNION OFFERING

The Episcopal Fund supplies United Methodist bishops worldwide with much-needed support. Bishops have a very special role as they are elected and consecrated to speak to the church and from the church into the world. Bishops are called by God from many settings and bring to the church "..varieties of gifts... the same Spirit... varieties of service... varieties of activities... the same God" (1Corinthians 12:4-6, NRSV). Their role is both practical and visionary since bishops oversee and promote the church's spiritual and temporal interests.

Paraguay Mission Update

Our speakers for Sunday, July 11, 2010 were Andy and Lizet Bowen.

Andy and Lizet are missionaries in Paraguay.

Why We Serve

To prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up." Ephesians 4:12 (NIV) We have been called, like all followers of Christ, to participate in the evangelization of the world and the building up of our fellow Christians so they can be more effective in that task. One of the beautiful things about the Body of Christ is that the parts are so different—each with its own abilities and personality. That's one of the reasons being involved in the Body of Christ is so exciting!

Help Save Red Bird Mission School

Recently the UM churches from Butler, Montville, Bethesda NJ, Barryville, PA and Canton, NY combined their efforts and worked at the Red Bird Mission Camp.  They have combined their efforts and have been returning yearly for over 12 years!

They were shocked to hear, the Mission School nearly closed this year.  The school has decided to open but with many cuts!

There is a way you can help:  If you use Facebook you can vote for the Red Bird School to win $500,000 from Kohl's Department Store!  There is no catch.  The department store Kohl's is giving the top 20 schools with the most votes the money!  Each person can give 5 votes to this school.  Currently, the school is around  50th place with nearly 2,000 votes but needs at least 6,000 or more at this time and voting ends Sept. 3rd.

Please vote and encourage others to vote as well.

The One Great Hour of Sharing
May's Communion Offering

And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8 (NIV)

"The gifts to UMCOR supporting Haiti relief efforts is expected to be more than $25 million. 100% of the donations made to the UMCOR Haiti Emergency advance will benefit Gods most vulnerable children in Haiti. The same will be true of gifts for the Chile Earthquake response. As you know, UMCOR is able to make this promise because administrative expenses are covered through the One Great Hour of Sharing.

Greetings from the heart of Appalachia!

We want to say - again - how much we value our partnership with y'all in ministry here in this community! So much work is done! Kenneth's house, Carol Ann's hot water heater fixed, Alberta's Ale reinstalled, and the roof of the parsonage - and all done with love and continued friendship and fellowship! Thanks for the gifts you left to help finish Kenneth's house! We still hope to have him in the late fall - but with God's will and His way!

Most of all - thank you for your faithful love! May God continue to bless all your ministries!

In His love - with us! Diane and Steve Springer

LETTER FROM NORRIS
NEW FOUNTAIN OF LIFE

Ruth and I have decided to give up the construction part of our mission. We will see that members of the Board continue the evangelism part of the mission. The food kitchen will still be supported, and evangelist Elias Patoni will be supplied with bibles to help in starting up new churches throughout Mexico. The funds needed to support these activities is much less than before so we are requesting that New Fountain of Life be removed from the budget, and any special funds. Our monthly donations are, at this time, sufficient to supply the mission. Our feeling is that funds for missions should be used, and we know there are plenty of needy missions.
