BISHOP DEVADHAR SENT THE FOLLOWING LETTER TO ALL THE CLERGY IN THE GNJ ANNUAL CONFERENCE: September 29, 2010
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The time is drawing near for our celebration of the shared Eucharist with our brothers and sisters of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) on Saturday, October 9th at the East Calvary Korean United Methodist Church, East Brunswick. I appeal to you to do everything in your power to be present as we share in this very special occasion. I also request that you strongly encourage your laity to come as well. The only way this event will truly be a celebration and a success is if you and your laity are present.
Celebrate this event in your churches, widely and joyfully. If you have an ELCA church in your community please call the pastor and invite him or her and their laity to come to this event and share your excitement about this historic celebration of full communion between the UMC and ELCA denominations.
The day will begin with worship at 10AM. Following lunch there will be presentations from two leading scholars with the day coming to a conclusion at 3:00 PM. Bishop E. Roy Riley, New Jersey Synod of the ELCA will preach and I will celebrate at the Table.
A lunch will be provided for a donation of $10. Please call your respective district office immediately and give them the number of people attending the event from your church along with the donation for lunch.
If you want to know more particulars about this historic full communion between our two denominations, kindly visit: http://www.gccuic-umc.org/
Bishop Riley and I look forward to seeing you all!
In Christ's love,
Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar
WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO ATTEND THIS HISTORIC EVENT |
